Oxytocin 10 mg – Neuropeptide Research Compound
Oxytocin is a cyclic nonapeptide hormone (Cys-Tyr-Ile-Gln-Asn-Cys-Pro-Leu-Gly-NH2) with an internal disulphide bridge, produced by magnocellular neurons in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus. It is one of the oldest known peptide hormones and among the most actively researched neuropeptides in modern behavioural neuroscience.
Research Background
Social behaviour and bonding – Oxytocin is often called the “social peptide” due to its established roles in pair bonding, maternal behaviour, social recognition, and trust. Research models use exogenous oxytocin to study these prosocial pathways and their disruption in social-deficit conditions.
Stress and anxiety modulation – Oxytocin acts as an anxiolytic in the CNS, reducing HPA axis activation and cortisol release. This positions it at the intersection of stress biology and social neuroscience.
Peripheral actions – Beyond the brain, oxytocin has well-characterised roles in uterine contraction, lactation, and cardiovascular regulation, making it relevant to reproductive and cardiovascular research.
Autism spectrum research – Oxytocin’s role in social cognition has driven significant research interest in social-deficit models, though clinical translation remains an active area of investigation.
